Executive Summary:
Report No. 139 (2002) presents the Council's recommendations on a new system for classifying waste that contains hazardous substances, either radionuclides or hazardous chemicals. NCRP's recommendations incorporate three principles. First, the classification system is generally applicable to any waste that contains radionuclides, hazardous chemicals, or mixtures of the two. Second, waste that contains hazardous substances is classified based on considerations of health risks to the public that arise from waste disposal. Third, the hazardous waste classification system includes an exempt class of waste. View the latest Book Review of this Report.
